Staff Report

There's still time to sign up for the Chowchilla Warrior Wrestling Program.

The program is for youth, boys and girls, K-12. Signups will be held at the wrestling practices held on Mondays and Wednesdays. K-5 practices are from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sixth- through 12th-grade practice time is 6:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Practices are held at the Wilson Middle School Wrestling Room located at South Thirteenth Street and Trinity Avenue.

See Coach Manuel Ramirez or Coach Daniel Holmes for signups or more information.

The goal of the Chowchilla Warrior Wrestling Program is to provide a safe, structured environment where wrestlers will learn and develop wrestling skills and at the same time develop confidence, self-discipline, a strong work ethic and learn to compete as an individual within a team environment.

Ramirez said, "We believe by keeping our area children involved in the sport of wrestling, we can help keep them off the streets, away from gang activity and drug-free."

The PAL/Chowchilla Warrior Wrestling Program staff consists entirely of volunteers who serve as coaches and mentors. Ramirez noted that all the coaches are certified and have gone through a background screening process.

The program is part of the California USA Wrestling and the State of California Wrestling Association for Youth.
