Speech:

Parents, teachers, classmates, and friends;

Welcome, to my graduation. Thank you. With your help, my teachers' help, and God's help, I have reached thismilestone in my life. I couldn't have done it without you. We're here tonight to celebrate, to remember the good times, and to mark the occasion. Tomorrow I will set new goals, for the summer, for next school year, and for high school graduation four years from now.

Let me share a story with you...Once there was a spider which built a beautiful web in an old house. He kept it nice and clean and shiny so that flies would come to it. The minute he got a "customer", he would clean up on him so the other flies wouldn't get suspicious.

Then one day this fairly intelligent fly came buzzing by the clean spider web. Old man spider called ou, "Come in and sit." But the fairly intelligent fly said, "No sir, I don't see other flies in your house, and I am not going in alone!"

Presently he saw on the floor below a large crowd of flies dancing arund on a piece of brown paper. He was delighted! He was not afriad if lots of flies were doing it. So he came in for a landing.

But just before he landed, a bee zoomed by saying, "Don't land there stupid! That's flypaper!" But the fairly intelligent fly shouted back, "Don't be silly. Those flies are dancing. There's a big crowd there and it's safe. That many flies can't be wrong!"

So he came in for a landing, flaps down, feet set. He was sure that he was safe doing what so many other flies were doing. So he landed---and he got stuck! He wanted to be with the crowd more than anything else. But he was only fairly intelligent...or hardly that!

This describes people, too, doesn't it? Some of us want to be with the crowd so desperately that we end up in a mess. What does a fly (or a person) do if he escapes the spider web only to end up on the fly paper?

Next year I will be attending Madera South High School, and I am going to have a lot of challenges in front of me. I am going to be meeting up with old friend and meeting new friends, I will be in science classes that teach evolution rather than creationism, and I will be dealing with all kinds of subjects and activities where God is not involved at all, but in Bible class this year we discussed what the word "convictions" mean, and Mrs. de la Torre asked each of us if we knew what our personal convictions are? That made me start thinking. I realized that I am old enough to start forming my own beliefs, not jsut what my parents believe.

So, I havechosen for my Motto - The Bible My Guid, and for my Aim - Heaven My Goal. I can handle all the choices that are going to be facing me in the coming years because I will keep God close to me. I will read my Bible, pray, and have Heaven as my goal. And as my favorite Bible text--Deuteronomy 6:5 says, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soal and with all your strength." With God by my side I can face the world!
