A home in the foothills of Madera County was the target of a drug raid Thursday night where agents discovered a Super Meth lab, as well as an indoor grow.

Narcotic Enforcement agents from the Fresno Meth Task Force, Attorney General's bureau of Narcotic Enforcement (BNE) Sacramento Regional Office, and Agents from the Madera County Narcotic Enforcement Team (MADNET) and Madera County Gang Enforcement Team (MADGET) served a search warrant at a home located on Road 603 near Raymond.

The rental property had been converted into a drug manufacturing plant complete with an elaborate indoor grow found in the home's detached garage; and a fully functioning Super Meth lab, capable of producing at least 40 pounds of methamphetamine at a time, discovered in the barn.

Agents removed mass amounts of precursor chemicals along with several pounds of lethal lab waste.

Approximately 112 marijuana plants were seized, along with 30 additional plants ready for process.

No one was home when agents arrived.

Once agents had finished gathering evidence, the Health Department was called in to handle the contaminated site.

It will be several weeks before Health Officials can determine the extent of environmental damage. Tests will be conducted on samples taken from the soil, the property's septic and water well. And the interior of the home, barn and shed will also have to be tested.

The degree of damage to this one home and property could be extensive. Officials say one pound of manufactured meth generates between four to six pounds of toxic waste. Remember, says Madera County Sheriff John Anderson, this one lab was capable of producing as much as 40 pounds of meth at a time.

The homeowner will be responsible for the costly clean-up. The tab could run as high as nearly $100,000. For now it has been deemed uninhabitable.

Agents can only release a limited amount of information about this drug operation because the investigation is on going. However, based on evidence seized, they do believe it is connected to organized crime.

Agencies handling narcotic investigations in Madera County include:

* BNE (Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement)

* MADNET (Madera County Narcotic Enforcement Team)

* FMTF (Fresno Meth Task Force)

* MADGET (Madera County Gang Enforcement Team)

Sheriff Anderson says these agencies are invaluable because no one agency can tackle the problem alone. That is why the agents who work for MADNET and FMTF, for example, are pooled from local law enforcement agencies throughout our Valley.

In Madera County, sworn personnel from the Sheriff's Department, Chowchilla Police, Madera Police, California Highway Patrol, Probation and District Attorney's Office make up the staff at MADNET and MADGET. Sheriff Anderson says their support is vital. Madera, Fresno and Merced counties alone depend on these kinds of agencies. Without them, he says, our valley couldn't tackle the size and scope of drug trafficking organizations operating in our state.
