Sheriff issues warning about World Cup email scam

Madera County Sheriff John Anderson is issuing a warning about a suspicious email you may receive from an outfit announcing that you are a winner.

The subject headline reads:

"You are a lucky winner. Congratulations open attachment."

Title of document attached: "2010 FIFA WORLD CUP"

Sheriff Anderson says do NOT open it.

Supervisor Frank Bigelow received the following email. He didn't open it, he notified the Sheriff's Department.

Sent: Thursday, May 13, 2010 7:54 AM

Subject: YOU ARE A LUCKY WINNER "CONGRATULATIONS" OPEN ATTACHMENT

PLEASE KINDLY OPEN THE ATTACHMENT AND GET BACK TO US.

Sheriff Anderson says the public can expect more so-called lotteries to litter the internet. "Never open these kinds of notifications," he says. "Delete them immediately."
