Senior citizens present Bingo Night

The Chowchilla Senior Center will present Prize Bingo Night this Friday beginning at 6 p.m.

A donation of $20 will include one book. Food and drink booths will be available. Proceeds from the event will go toward senior citizen activities.

The Chowchilla Senior Center is located at 820 Robertson Boulevard. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Portuguese celebration begins

Sociedade Flor Acoriana of Chowchilla (S.F.A.) will celebrate it's 83rd annual festival on Saturday and Sunday at the S.F.A. Hall located at 800 South Third Street.

A Rosary was recited on Monday and Tuesday at the chapel. A Rosary will also be recited tonight, through Friday at 7:30 p.m. each evening.

On Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. decorated floats and oxen carts will parade to Fifth Street and back to the hall where the animals are blessed.

Sweetbread, milk and cheese will be served, then lunch.

At 2 p.m. at the fairgrounds parking lot, there will be an auction of donated cattle. The evening will include music by Alcides Machado, D;J. He will play both nights of the festival.

On Sunday, the parade of queens representing towns from throughout California will begin at 9 a.m., accompanied by the Tulare Philharmonic Band and the Lira Acoriana Band of Stevinson.

Mass at St. Columba Catholic Church will be held at 10 a.m. Father Angel Sotelo, accompanied by the Choir of Hilmar will celebrate mass.

Following mass, the parade will return to the hall for the traditional "Sopas," which is served to all who attend.

During the afternoon there will be an indoor auction of donated items. Another meal will be served in the evening to all those who attend. A dance will follow at 9 p.m.
