Basketball: Redskins lose in last second of game

Kerman went for a layup in the last second of the game to beat the Redskins on home court last Friday night.

Chowchilla Union High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team played hard against the Kerman Lions but in the end they came out with a one point loss, 36-35.

Terrance Olivia led Chowchilla with 10 points, followed by Harjot Singh with seven points. Matt Umphenour chipped in with four points. Matthew Ruckman and Rene Ruis each contributed three points on the court. Redskins Kyle Kinsley,Rami Misleh, Omar Misleh and Caleb Mott each scored two points.

The Redskins outscored Kerman in the first quarter, 13-6.

The 'Skins offense was held scoreless in the second quarter and defense allowed six point for the Lions to end the first half of the game with a Redskins lead, 13-12.

Coming back into the second half, the 'Skins scored eight points and allowed Kerman 10.

Up until the last second of the game, the Redskins held the lead. Kerman went down for a layup in the last second and won the game for the Lions, 36-35.

Earlier this week, the Redskins traveled to play against Washington Union and came home with a 47-37 loss.

Redskins Ruckman and Olivia shot 10 points each. Harjot Singh contributed six points Rami Misleh hit five points. Ruiz chipped in with three points. Kinsley added two points and Omar Mishleh contributed one point.

The Redskins hold a 2-6 record in league play.

Chowchilla will play on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at home against Yosemite High School. JV starts at 5 p.m. followed by varsity at 6:30 p.m.
