Former local resident Traver Dougherty, D.Min., Ph.D. will guest lead a conference in Chowchilla in March.

The conference is sponsored by TLC Fellowships Chowchilla-Fresno-Madera and will be held at Hosanna Worship Center.

Dougherty has nearly 20 years of ministry experience including missionary, church lanner, and senior pastor.

He combines his love for the Word and the Church with the reality of life. He holds two earned doctorates, a D.Min. in Spiritual Formation from Haggard Graduate School of Theology at Azusa Pacific University and a Ph.D. in Intercultural Studies, Missions from Fuller Theological Seminary.

Dougherty's primary research interests include discipleship, church systems, and Biblical interpretation.

Alongside his involvement with planting house churches, Dougherty serves as a regular presenter for church planting conferences.

He has taught at William Jessup University, Western Seminary and Fuller Theological Seminary.

Dougherty and his wife, Aimee and two sons, Keith and Keagan live in Roseville.

The conference will begin on March 18, at 6:30 p.m. The first topic will be "Learning to See the Pharisee in Me."

In this opening presentation Dougherty will expound upon his own journey with God and the Church. As a conservative theologian, he will unpack the often confusing differences between Biblical theology and church tradition.

During the exploration, he will cover a brief history of the church, how the Bible was put together, Protestantism and the Church as people have come to know it today.

The second topic to be held on March 19, at 6:30 p.m. will be titled, "Learning to See the bible through God's Eyes."

When people go to the grocery story they have been trained to shop in a particular way. People get their stuff and stand in line. Believe it or not, this mundane activity shapes how we understand the world.

In this presentation, Dougherty will unpack some of the ways people's minds have been shaped to see things a certain way. From Constantine to the Reformation to the west's love affair with consumerism, he will help people see why they see things the way they do and why it may interfere with right interpretations of Scripture.

On March 20, beginning at 9 a.m. Dougherty will begin Topic 3: "Learning the Berean Way."

Luke notes the Bereans were of "noble character" because they "examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true" (Acts 17:11).

In this presentation Dougherty will urge people to believe nothing he's said until they've examined the Scriptures for themselves.

In a world hungry for experts Dougherty will explain basic and advanced Bible study methods so that people can responsibly "divide the word of truth" (I Tim. 2: 15).

The last topic on March 29, beginning at 6 p.m. will be an open forum.
