4H holds its annual 'Favorite Foods Day'
Event held in Chowchilla.
CHOWCHILLA NEWS STAFF
Fifty-three 4H club members from around Madera County participated in the annual Favorite Foods Day on Jan. 23.
A total of 91 entries were displayed.
Favorite Foods Day allows 4H members around the county to make their favorite dishes and display them in a competition. Members do not have to be enrolled in a cooking project to participate.
This year the event was held at a new location, Faith Hall, located in Chowchilla. In the past the competition was held in Madera at the high school.
“The new location worked out great,” stated Alview-Dairyland Community Club Leader/Event Chair Joyce Costa, “No one seemed to complain about the drive and it seemed to go pretty smooth. We have some kinks to work out, but that always comes with a new location. I look forward to next year’s event.”
Costa also stated that without the help of parent volunteers and leaders, this event would not be possible.
There are a variety of catagories the 4H members can enter. Each entry is only $1 and there are special awards also given out in different catagories, such as almond, raisin, pork, poultry and dairy and many more. Individuals and/or business’ sponsor the special awards and give the winner a gift basket or certificate.
Each catagory is judged for the presentation as well as the item itself, recipes are also on display. Everyone receives a ribbon for their efforts along with the judges comments or suggestions.
While the judges were judging, members were able to enjoy playing bingo and entering into a Consumer Science Judging contest.
