Local veterans were honored recently at a special ceremony at Chowchilla's Richard Corbett Brown Post 9896 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Korea, Vietnam veterans honored

The Post recognized nine of its life members with commemorative medals and certificates of commendation from the Madera County Board of Supervisors and the Office of Congressman George Radanovich. Pictures of the members taken during their military service and in civilian life will be hung in honor in the Post meeting room.

Korean War member Charles Key was honored. Vietnam veterans included Robert J. Acree, Carlos Bedolla, William Chandler, Judge John De Groot, Charles Key, Kenneth Lasiter, John Lawson, Dr. Ronald Moore and Robert Selby. Members and their families contributed to articles about the lives of the members before, during and after their wartime service. The Chowchilla News will be carrying stories about each of the individuals in the coming weeks.

VFW members assisting at the narrative at the ceremony included Post Commander Don Gwartney and Member Steve Stewart. Shirley Moore prepared and served desserts following the ceremony.
