Four new teachers join staff at Chowchilla High School

The 2009-2010 school year will begin at Chowchilla Union High School with four new teachers (and a new athletic director, see Page B1). Joining the staff will be Allan Spencer, Amanda Tuma, Kinzie Fink-Thompson and Sarah Mankin

After bringing the Wilson Middle School Spartan Band to new heights, Allan Spencer will now be leading the music department at Chowchilla Union High School. He will direct the Redskin Band, Chorus and teach keyboard.

Spencer was born in Fresno. He attended California State University, Fresno, where he graduated with a degree in music and percussion.

He taught the last few years at Wilson Middle School, Clovis High School and Bullard Talent Middle School.

His hobbies include reading, writing, playing music, baseball, professional performances, recording, camping, practicing, composing, math and "rocking out!"

Allan Spencer has recorded three albums.

He is looking forward to leading the Redskin Music Department to new and exciting heights.

Amanda Tuma will be teaching tenth grade at CUHS.

She was born in Silver Spring, Maryland. She attended the University of Maryland earning a Bachelors Degree. She received her Masters at the College of William and Mary.

Tuma student taught eight grade U.S. History at Prince George's County Maryland and ninth grade U.S. History and tenth grade Government also in Maryland. This is her first full-time teaching position.

Tuma just moved to the Valley from Maryland. She lived roughly 30 minutes outside Washinton, D.C. She says she has been a life-long Washington Redskin's fan.

Kinzie Fink-Thompson will be teaching ninth grade English, Drama and will coach Varsity Cheer.

She was born in Madera. She received her BA from California State University, Fresno where she obtained her teaching credential. She also received her Masters in Ed Leadership and Administration.

Fink-Thompson taught English for six years to 9th to 12th grade students at Aptos High School. She worked with the yearbook for four years and was involved for four years with the Link Crew.

She enjoys her kids, a seven-year-old and a one-year-old, camping and the beach.

She and her family just moved from Santa Cruz this summer. She has cheered for 11 years, coached dance and roller hockey.

Sarah (Rutledge) Mankin returns to her Alma Mater as a mathematics teacher.

She was born in Merced and raised in Chowchilla. She attended Alview-Dairyland School District and graduated from CUHS. After high school she attended California State University, Stanislaus.

Mankin taught for one year at Turlock Jr. High and student taught at Turlock High School.

Mankin is devoted to her church an enjoys being an active member.

Mankin is the daughter of Glen and Carrie Rutledge.
