The Chowchilla Speedway will celebrate Independence Day in fine fashion with a huge fireworks display and a great race program headlined by the Western Modifieds this Friday night July 3rd. Grandstands open at 5:30pm.

The rivalry between Super Stock point leader Mike Shepherd and second place Mitch Enos was at a fever pitch Saturday night as Enos made a strong pass on the outside of Shepherd to charge to the front and then drove away. Enos appeared as he was driving off to victory when Shepherd moved from the bottom of the track to the high side and began to close on the giant lead Enos had built. By the time the white flag was in the air Enos's lead was gone and Shepherd made a crowd thrilling pass on the high side. Enos was attempting to go back past Shepherd on the last turn but was blocked by a lapped car giving Shepherd the win.

The battle in the Hobby Stocks was as hot as the temperature outside as Danny Roe won the main event last weekend and was looking for two in a row, but a hard charging Marshall Weaver

stormed by as the laps were running out to take the victory. Roe finished a solid second with Tim Dean coming across the finish line behind him, but Dean was penalized for turning Jarred Fast on the last lap, so he was moved to the last car on the lead lap giving third place to Robbie Loquaci. Dick Webb and David Soares made up the balance of the top five. As a foot note Jarred Fast is under review by the race committee for actions unbecoming a race car driver, Fast expressed his dissatisfaction with Deans driving techniques on the race track after the race was over. Like I started with, man was it one hot race!

The Sportsman verses the Hard Top race was the best of the season for this class as ten great looking cars thrilled the crowd with some great side by side action on the track. Mark Odgers and Tim Prothro gave the crowd a great show fighting for the front spot until the white flag when Odgers engine gave up the fight, Prothro went on to win followed by Mike Henault, Don Epps, Rich Ottomoreno, and Michael Shearer.

The 4-banger division victory was taken by track point leader Kathy Evans.
